Police in Mumbai have obtained reports regarding an abortion that actress Jiah Khan claimed to have undergone prior to committing suicide last week. on June 3.

Khan wrote in a series of letters to her mother that she had an abortion, allegedly the child of then-boyfriend and fellow Bollywood actor Suraj Pancholi. Police didn't have any comments on the development, other than to say they had retrieved the records.

"There have been no new developments so far. We have received the medical reports from the hospital where the fetus was aborted," an officer said.

Pancholi remains in custody for questioning under allegations that he abetted Khan's suicide. His lawyer said that they would be able to produce new information on Friday.

Khan, 25, was found dead at her home by her mother at the actress's home in Mumbai last week. Although the death was a clear suicide, Khan's mother has pointed her finger at Pancholi for being responsible. Pancholi could be found guilty of abetting Khan's suicide.

Police seized five letters that Khan wrote to her mother, Rabiya. Aside from the abortion, the actress referred to having undergone "torture." Although the letters don't specify who was the cause of the torture, Rabiya has insisted that it refers to Pancholi. The mother alleged that Khan had facial injuries following her split from Pancholi, and the events surrounding the split pushed her daughter to suicide.

Pancholi's mother, actress Zarina Pancholi, proclaimed that although she and her husband felt pity for Rabiya, her son was not responsible for the death.

"Our son is being made into a scapegoat. My husband Aditya and I are grieving for Jiah but our son was not responsible for her death," she said. "Jiah's soul cannot rest in peace until these unsavory controversies and lies about my son die down."
