Nintendo has announced more details about the upcoming Pokemon X and Y, which the company said Tuesday would hit stores on Oct. 12 for the Nintendo 3DS.

Players will start their journey in the sixth-generation Pokemon game, set in the Kalos region, in Vaniville Town. When the player leaves his or her house, he or she will come across four trainers that the player will continually run into around the Kalos region. Their names are Shauna, Tierno, Trevor and Serena (if the player is male) or Calem (if the player is female).

The first Gym Leader, Viola, resides in Santalune City. The Gym will be made of threads similar to spider webs, which indicates a Bug-type Gym Leader. To reach her, players must work their way up to Viola with the help of her sister, Alexa.

Nintendo also released the following gameplay video, which shows off four new Pokemon:

The first new creature is Litleo, a Fire- and Normal-type Pokemon that knows Noble Roar, a new move to the Pokemon series that lowers the targets Attack stat.

Flabebe is a Pokemon that knows Fairy Wind, a move of the new Fairy-type that is super effective against Dragon types.

Lastly there is Scatterbug, a new Bug-type Pokemon that evolves into Spewpa, the fourth new Pokemon shown in the video.

Pokemon X and Y will be the first games in the sixth generation of the long-running, popular video game series. The most recent games were Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2.
