Kobe Bryant may have been out of the NBA Playoffs for more than a month now, but he still managed to generate headlines thanks to a custody battle of sorts with his parents, Pamela Bryant and former NBA player Joe "Jellybean" Bryant. The celebrity parents had decided to auction off a bunch of Kobe's old possessions that were being stored at their home when Kobe stepped in and nixed the idea, claiming he still possessed ownership.
The two-sides came to an agreement last week. Kobe's parents would be able sell roughly 10 percent of what they had originally attempted to options. Plus, half the proceeds from four of Kobe's favorite items will go to the social action campaign for the anti-bullying film "Bully."
Some of the stuff was pretty cool. A few examples:
Kobe's 2000 NBA Championship ring: Apparently Kobe is cool just hanging on to the other three rings he has. This 14k gold ring features 24 diamonds and the inscription "Bling Bling" on one side. Bryant's tastes have mellowed over the years, which could be why he's cool getting rid of this "bling" ring.
Ball singed by John Wooden: This basketball, in UCLA's blue and gold color scheme, is signed in silver by Coach Wooden, considered by many to be the greatest coach in NCAA history.
High school uniform: Kobe wore the jersey playing road games for Lower Merion High School. Bryant jumped straight from high school to the NBA, so he was already a star when he wore this jersey. It's maroon.
Ticket stub from first NBA game: Brant suited up for the Lakers during his rookie season in 1996 going up against Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
You have to wonder, if this is part of the 10 percent Bryant was willing to part with, what else does have that he wants to keep?
