Lil Wayne made headlines and apparently suffered a headache from the blowback after video of the rapper walking all over an American flag hit the internet yesterday.
Weezy was filming a video for his single "God Bless Amerika," which unsurprisingly does not take too kindly to the title nation, and someone else was shooting the event from another angle. In the clip, a flag being used as a backdrop drops to the ground and Wayne steps backwards onto it, proceeding to pace back and forth while rapping.
The backlash from the video came fast and hard on Wayne, causing the rapper to release a Twitter explanation on Tuesday morning.
I didn't step on the flag on purpose! It's a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it's just there as I perform

"I didn't step on the flag on purpose!" he exclaims via social media. "It's a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it's just there as I perform."
Wayne came up just short of offering an actual apology. The problem is, viewers of the video will see that Wayne's explanation doesn't hold up to what the clip shows.
First of all, the flag isn't "just there" as he performs. Most of the video features Wayne standing or pacing around on his backdrop. Secondly, Wayne must have been really out of his element if he didn't realize he was walking all over the flag. It's conceivable that he accidentally took a step backwards onto it after it fell, but he begins walking back and forth over it, looking at the ground for at least part of the video. Whether the final product was meant to feature Wayne walking on the flag is unknown, but it's a safe bet it won't now.
It's not the first time Wayne has courted controversy this year. A remix of rapper Future's "Karate Chop" featured a lyric referencing the death of Emmet Till in an unflattering manner. Wayne apologized for that remark and claimed he didn't know the song version would reach the public.
