The investigation into the suicide of Bollywood actress Jiah Khan took a dramatic turn on Tuesday when the Times of India reported that the handwriting on her tragic suicide note may not actually belong to the actress.

Police seized of letters from both the Mumbai homes of Khan and her ex-boyfriend, Suraj Pancholi. The five letters in Pancholi's possession were all love letters, but Khan's mother Rabia claimed that her daughter referenced abuse and rape in other letters, and that the actress had facial injuries around the time of her breakup from Pancholi. Rabia released the six-page suicide note, addressed to Pancholi, which featured references to the torture and abuse as well as a shocking admittance to receiving an abortion. Police later obtained documents from a Mumbai hospital that confirmed Khan had undergone the procedure.

However the Times of India received copies of all six notes and claimed that there was a noticeable difference in handwriting between the love letters and the suicide note. Police in the city are now requesting bank forms and other evidence to serve as background for a handwriting analysis of the suicide letter.

"If you look at the letters which were at Jiah and Suraj's house, you get a feeling that something is definitely not all right," said an anonymous police official. "However, it will be wrong to say anything emphatically until we get a confirmation from forensic experts."

Pancholi remains incarcerated for allegedly abetting Khan's suicide until a decision is made on his bail later this week. Pancholi's mother Zarina believes Khan's suicide note is a conspiracy against her son. She pointed her finger at Rabia in a statement.

"Yes, I am aware that the handwritings look different in the two sets," she said. "I think Rabia did not account for the fact that her daughter wrote love letters to my son. She was living under the impression that she only called and texted him. The truth will be out very soon."

The note, if true, is damning evidence against Pancholi. Below is a sample of the text:

"When I first met you I was driven, ambitious and disciplined. Then I fell for you, a love I thought would bring out the best in me. I don't know why destiny brought us together. After all the pain, the rape, the abuse, the torture I have seen previously I didn't deserve this. I didn't see any love or commitment from you. I just became increasingly scared that you would hurt me mentally or physically. Your life was about partying and women. Mine was you and my work. If I stay here I will crave you and miss you. So I am kissing my 10-year career and dreams goodbye."
