Bruce Springsteen is still on tour in support of his last album "Wrecking Ball," but the rocker told Rolling Stone that he found time to hit the recording studio while touring in Australia.

"I have stuff I'm working on that I'm very happy about," he said. "I hate to say, because I don't like to be wrong but I have a lot of material. I still feel like I'm in the middle of the well."

Springsteen is in the middle of his European tour right now, but he said he found time in the studio while the band was in Sydney, Australia. He didn't say whether the rest of the E Street Band was involved, but he said both he and guitarist Tom Morello worked on some new stuff for the follow-up to "Wrecking Ball." Morello, also the guitarist for Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave, had been touring with the E Street Band while regular guitarist Steven Van Zandt took a leave of absence.

The recording in itself was historic for Springsteen, the vocalist said.

"We've never had a recording session during a tour in our lives," he said of his band. "We did a couple of things that I wanted to put down. So that was very exciting. And being with Tommy was exciting. The band...Steven, Nils, all those guys...continues to be a source of inspiration for me."

Springsteen and his band have produced new albums at a rate approaching their work during the '80s in the last decade, releasing seven records since 2002. Springsteen says he plans on taking a two-week break after the band's last scheduled show at Rock in Rio.

"It's ongoing," he said. "A week or two later, after stopping, I'm in the studio working, making a demo. You stop the performing for awhile, because this level of intensity. . . You need a break from it."
