Paris Jackson Suicide Attempt: Michael Jackson's 'Best Friend' Discusses Teen, Pop Star's Last Days

Mark Lester, one of Michael Jackson's best friends, spoke on a British morning show Tuesday about the pop star's last days and the hoopla surrounding the suicide attempt of Jackson's daughter Paris. June 25 marks the four-year anniversary of Michael's death. 

Lester said that Jackson was excited in the months leading up to his death, contrasting the zombified image sometimes presented by the media. Jackson was preparing for a run of shows in London, the "This Is It" concert series, and couldn't wait. 

"I spoke to him on the phone several times before or during the rehearsals, and maybe three or four days before the tragic events that happened four years ago today, and he was really excited," Lester said. "He was going to come over to the UK, his kids had never seen him perform, he was really fired up about it."

Lester is the godfather to all three of Jackson's children, so he had special room for concern when discussing Paris's suicide attempt. He said that he doesn't feel (or at least hopes) that Paris's actions were totally sincere, and that the girl had accidentally gone too far in an attempt for attention. Lester's own children were once playmates with the Jacksons and he said he was eager to get the two families together if it would ease the stress of Michael's daughter. He said he felt bad for not reaching out sooner, but doubted that communication lines to Paris would be open for a while considering recent events. He said he was sure Michael would be upset at the current state of things. 

"He did so much to protect his children and for them to have all this media attention, I think, he would have been quite disturbed by it," Lester said. 

Of course some theorists think Lester may have more than the friendly interest in the well-being of Michael's children. There has long been a rumor that Lester is the biological father of the Jackson kids. Not sure we see the resemblance however.
