It seems as though Zach Braff will have to trade in his movie camera for some tap shoes and a microphone. The Scrubs star is set to make his Broadway debut next year.

According to The New York Times, Braff will star in the musical adaptation of Woody Allen's 1994 film Bullets Over Broadway. He will play David Shayne, a struggling playwright who has to cast a mob boss' talentless girlfriend in order to get his new drama produced.

Helene Yorke will star opposite Braff as Olive Neal.

John Cusack and Jennifer Tilly played the starring roles in the film version.

Allen will adapt his movie for the Broadway stage, and the production is set to be directed by Susan Stroman.

This will be Braff's first foray onto the musical stage. Though he is known primarily as an actor and director, Braff has proven that he has the capability to sing on his hit show Scrubs. The comedy show included musical montages on occasion and even had a whole episode dedicated to song, My Musical.

This won't be Braff's first time in plays, however. He has been featured in works such as Trust and Twelfth Night.

Bullets Over Broadway is set to open April 10, 2014.

Before that, Braff will be busy filming and directing his second feature film Wish I Was Here. The upcoming movie made headlines because Braff used a Kickstarter campaign to fund the film, causing backlash from critics who thought the actor is rich enough to back the project himself.

However, Braff managed to raise over $3.1 million via Kickstarter, far surpassing his $2 million goal.
