Billboard has announced the numbers behind the best-selling songs and albums from the first half of 2013. There's good news and bad news for the music industry.

The best-selling album has been Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which has sold more than two-million copies. The album nearly reached platinum status, or one-million copies sold, within its first week of release during March.

On the flip side, Timberlake is the only artist to move than a million copies of an album this year. Bruno Mars will probably reach platinum status soon for "Unorthodox Jukebox," which has sold 985,000 copies to date. Mumford and Sons' "Babel" placed third, selling 884,000 copies. The lack of platinum albums demonstrates an alarming trend in the music industry, as this is the second year in a row that only one artist has sold platinum numbers at the year's midway point. Adele's "21" was last year's qualifier.

In terms of singles, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis dominated the singles charts. The duo's "Thrift Shop" has now sold 5.6 million downloads. Although album sales are down, the interest in single downloads seem to be up in recent years. "Thrift Shop" broke the record for most downloads at the midway point, beating out Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" from 2012. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis also have the no. 6 song on the list, with "Can't Hold Us."

Fifty-one songs in total have sold more than a million downloads this year, a slight increase from 47 at this point in 2012.
