If it were up to Kanye West, the masses would have heard Magna Carta Holy Grail tracks "Oceans" and "Holy Grail" much sooner.

According to a BBC Radio 1 interview via NME, Jay-Z began working on his new album 2013 Magna Carta Holy Grail back when West and he had just finished their collaboration album Watch The Throne, which was released in Aug. 2011.

Hova thought the two were done with WTT and played "Holy Grail" and "Oceans" for West, who then pressured Jay-Z to include the songs on Watch The Throne.

"We had this whole plan when me and Kanye did Watch The Throne album that we would go right into our solos after that. Soon as I thought we had wrapped up Watch The Throne, I made two records. I had 'Holy Grail' and Oceans,'" said Jay-Z.

"There were no lyrics on 'Holy Grail' and I recorded 'Oceans,' and I played those records for Kanye. And he was like, 'No those have to go on Watch The Throne.' So, we spent four days arguing about those records and I was explaining to him why it wasn't right for this project, and I had a whole idea for making this album called Magna Carta," Jay-Z continued.

Though the arguing never got violent - except pushing between two parties who were not Jay-Z or Kanye West - Hova ended up coming out on top. "Oceans" and "Holy Grail" were held until July 4 and the release of his twelfth studio album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. "Holy Grail" was eventually finished with lyrics, including a sample from Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and a guest spot on the song from iHeartRadio Music Festival headliner Justin Timberlake.
