A rumored lawsuit between Rihanna and UK clothing chain Topshop from May has come to a head. The "Stay" pop star is suing the clothing chain for £5 million. Rihanna claims that Topshop used her image without her permission and fooled fans in to thinking a tank top was official Rihanna merchandise, according to BBC News.

The tank top in question used Rihanna's photo taken by a freelance photographer while Ri Ri was shooting a music video in Northern Ireland in 2011.

The hearing involved Rihanna's lawyers saying the tank tops damaged Rihanna's reputation and harmed her fans, who idolize the R&B superstar. "The sales gave rise to a likelihood is deception, damaging Rihanna's goodwill. A substantial number of people buying, or even seeing, those T-shirts would think they are approved or somehow connected with Rihanna, when, in fact, they were not approved or connected with her at all," Rihanna's lawyer Martin Howe told the court.

Howe argued that fans would be hurt to know the profit from the tanks did not go to Rihanna directly, claiming she is a heroine to her Rihanna Navy.

Meanwhile, Topshop's lawyer, Geoffrey Hobbs, stated that the clothing brand purchased the rights to the image and, therefore, had the right to sell the tank top.

"We resist the claim on two main bases; first, this is, in substance and reality, an impermissible attempt by Rihanna to establish an image reproduction right in the UK. There is no such right. On the contrary, Topshop are entitled to honestly sell the garment, having obtained the necessary copyright licence," said Hobbs.

He continued: "Secondly, there is no representation here, given that the garment is fashion wear and not promotional merchandise."

Rihanna's claims of wrongdoing on Topshop's part are not helped by the fact that the songstress has asked the brand for clothes six times since the lawsuit began.

The hearing continues in the UK.
