It looks like the Disney Channel not only has another major hit on its hands, but it may have a couple future superstars. Teen Beach Movie is an original Disney Channel movie that premiered July 19th and stars Ross Lynch from Austin & Ally, Maia Mitchell, and Garrett Clayton. The TV movie is about two teenagers, Brady and McKenzie, who love to surf. They find themselves stuck in the movie "Wet Side Story" (yes, like "West Side Story") and the movie goes from there.

The Huffington Post reports that Teen Beach Movie broke numerous records after the show brought in 8.4 million total viewers. According to Huffington Post it was Disney Channel's top original movie in over four years (based on total viewers) and the third most watched original Disney Channel movie ever for tween viewers. The only two movies ahead of Teen Beach Movie were Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie and High School Musical 2.

This is could mean big futures for the stars, especially Ross Lynch and Garrett Clayton, who are already getting a lot of buzz. People Magazine is already comparing Clayton, who plays Tanner in Teen Beach Movie, to Zac Efron. That is a big comparison, but Disney has seen a number of its young stars turn into huge Hollywood hits.

If you haven't seen the movie you can check out the official trailer below to see if you want to watch it. Teen Beach Movie will be rearing tonight (Sunday, July 21) at 8pm on Disney Channel. With the success of the original movie, there are sure to be rumors of a sequel coming soon. There is no word yet if there will be a second film, but it didn't take long for a Sharknado sequel to be announced, so don't be surprised if we hear news of a second film.
