A little behind on the news, a representative from the student body at Virginia Tech University sent a request to Sub Pop records requesting a video shout-out from grunge icons Nirvana...nearly 20 years after lead singer Kurt Cobain killed himself and the group disbanded.

"We received a letter in our mailbag asking Nirvana to send a video to support a campaign bid for homecoming queen," tweeted the record label, posting a picture of the note. Sub Pop is notorious for deflecting any requests for comment on the "Nevermind" band's time with the label, as the group actually left Sub Pop for Geffen prior to releasing its bestselling album. Plus, they're probably just tired of talking about Nirvana.

"It presents great publicity for them, and as Virginia Tech loves Nirvana, we'd love to have her in our video," the student wrote. "They would be one among artists including Big N Rich, Ying Yang Twins, the Cataracs, Slightly Stoopid, and three famous NFL Players."

It's as if the writer intentionally went out and tried to find the individuals that Nirvana would have tried as hard as possible to avoid: A mainstream country duo, possibly the most misogynistic duo in hip-hop, and a number of professional football players. Of course, the writer also referred to the band as a "her."

The label said it isn't sure if the note was an awkward prank or if some student was actually being taken to the cleaners by other students who were more in-the-know. Either way, Sub Pop says it has obliged the request, noting that costumes were involved. Hopefully the video sees the light of day, either at a Hokies football game or not.
