lousy with slyvianbriar will drop October 8 and lead singer Kevin Barnes recently revealed details about the album-making process.

"I knew I wanted the process to be more in line with the way people used to make albums in the late 60s and early 70s. I wanted to work fast and to maintain a high level of spontaneity and immediacy. I wanted the songs to be more lyric driven, and for the instrumental arrangements to be understated and uncluttered."

This is a surprising return to form. The band started as a ragtag group of musicians who liked to pretend the Summer of Love never ended, before evolving into a dance-rock group with a penchant for SAT words. Of Montreal's last few albums have been experimental headaches following Barnes' transvestite alter-ego (don't ask), so it's nice to see OM take a step back into what we loved about them in the first place.
