So quickly, our hopes have been dashed. After System Of A Down's drummer got the new album rumor mill up and running at a show in Los Angeles on July 29, vocalist Serj Tankian quickly shut it down via a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything).

"Is it true that there's a new System of a Down record in the making?" a redditor asked.

Tankian replied, "No, that is not true. A quick scan of press online will show that we have not yet agreed on a timetable for another record due to its time commitments."

However, the fan wasn't ready to give up. He came back with a response and kind of lambasted Serj for the eight year break between albums.

"Seriously I think everyone wants a new System Of A Down album. It's been too long since the last one," he told Serj.

"We really appreciate that, but we have to make a record when we think it's time, not anyone else," Tankian responded.

Reports surrounding the band seem to put the blame on Serj for the lake of SOAD production since 2005's Hypnotize/Mesmerize and Tankian has laid it out several times that there are no new albums in the foreseeable future.

After all, John Dolmayan only said that they wouldn't return to Los Angeles without a new album. He didn't say when that return might be.
