Kanye West to Perform 'Yeezus' Single 'Black Skinhead' During 2013 MTV VMAs Aug. 25: Rapper Joins Lady Gaga in Brooklyn [VIDEO]

The MTV Video Music Awards 2013 are really turning things up when it comes to big name performers. After announcing Lady Gaga will perform her new single "Applause" last month, today (Aug. 5), MTV revealed that Kanye West will return to the VMA stage to perform his "Yeezus" single "Black Skinhead."

In an announcement similar to the Lady Gaga one, MTV News' Sway took to New York City's Times Square to declare that 'Ye will take on his controversial single "Black Skinhead." In a fashion today's West might be slightly uncomfortable with, female fans then stormed into frame and screamed for their favorite rapper.

The 2013 performance of "Black Skinhead" will be West's seventh show at the VMAs. According to MTV, West first took the stage in 2004 to perform a medley of his hits. 'Ye last took on the VMAs in 2011, when he and Jay Z performed the "Watch The Throne" single "Otis."

It's curious that West would perform at the VMAs when he has been skeptical to promote "Yeezus." The first single, "Black Skinhead" received the video treatment three weeks after the album came out, and singles have yet to be pushed onto radio. Dwindling album sales could be a reason for the sudden "Yeezus" promotion. According to HipHopDX, West's latest album sold only 487,000 copies as of July 28.

Whatever West's reason for appearing at the VMAs may be, the performance is sure to be an intense spectacle. West first performed "Black Skinhead" on "Saturday Night Live" in May.

The 2013 MTV VMAs will take place live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Aug. 25 at 9 p.m.
