Mark Wahlberg will star in the fourth Transformers movie, but he is also setting his sights on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Wahlberg spoke to Yahoo! Movies to promote his newest movie, 2 Guns, with Denzel Washington and said he wants to step into the red and gold Iron Man suit.

"I would like to take over the 'Iron Man' franchise for Robert Downey (Jr.)," Wahlberg said, "[but] it's one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I've never been asked."

Wahlberg also revealed that he could have portrayed Batman's sidekick in Joel Schumacher's Batman franchise, which infamously ended with one of the worst superhero movies of all time, Batman & Robin.

"Once I was kind of being talked about for the Robin role in 'Batman [Forever]'," Wahlberg said. "Somebody dodged a bullet!"

And if Marky Mark does become Tony Stark, perhaps Wahlberg wants to play Iron Man because the role would not involve a particular item of clothing.

"I ain't wearing no tights, man," Wahlberg said.

Wahlberg is at his best when he plays the straight man to all the chaos and hi-jinks going on around him, so it's a bit unclear how he would fare in a superhero role in a special effects-driven movie. But he would certainly bring a different style to the role than Downey Jr., for better or worse.
