The slow way that Ellie Goulding has built a name for herself has certainly been interesting to watch, especially in the era of overnight virality. The easy does it approach that songs like "Lights" and "Burn" take to the charts has inspired her to re-release her second album Halcyon with 10 new tracks. The mega album now titled Halcyon Days seems to be getting favorable reviews from critics (much like the original).

Idolator

At 28 tracks, Halcyon Days could feel like a lot for a casual fan, but there are enough hits on the collective project that there will be more familiar tracks by now than not. For those riding with Goulding since the days of her cover of Sam Sparro's "Black And Gold," this release is merely an extension of Ellie's awesomeness and a sonic timeline through happiness, heartbreak and more happiness.

There Goes The Fear

Goulding has described 'Halcyon' as a break-up album, and there is a damsel-in-distress feeling to the songs, despite some musically triumphant moments. Layering of vocals, especially in the choruses, creates a grand effect. Dynamically, the album covers its bases from boldly brash to reflectively quiet, but the lyrics are sometimes lost in the noise. The album in general is emotionally charged, with its direct, repetitive lyrics placing the listener's attention squarely on Goulding's sparkling singing voice.

Digital Spy

Although repackaged albums generally receive collective groans from fans who bought the original 12 months previously, sometimes the extension is a welcome breath of life into an already quite good record. That's precisely the case with Ellie Goulding Halcyon, which narrowly missed the top spot last year. We loved the original collection, which is a series of haunting and stuttering melodies that offered an alternative glance at what pop music can be.

Boston Globe

The expanded edition of Ellie Goulding's fine "Halcyon" is no mere recycling job, as it helps expand the range of her musical vision with ten new tracks. The propulsive slice of electro-pop, "Burn" is already a hit, but it's not reflective of the dimension and diversity of the mix of originals and covers. Where "Halcyon" combined moody sentiments with swirling beats and effects, the deluxe edition finds her in a different place. Songs like the sonically sumptuous "Under Control" and "In My City" reflect affirmation and transformation.

EQ Music

To say we are loving it is an understatement! If you still can't get enough of the opus that was "Halcyon", then you're ears will be glued to your iBuds with"Halcyon Days" and it's incredible bonus tracks.
