Johnny Manziel finally got back on the field Saturday after one of the most controversial and eventful off seasons for a college football player in recent memory. Johnny Football finally played football. It did; however, take until the second half of Texas A&M's game against Rice, after Manziel faced a half-game penalty and suspension, for him to actually play. When he did take the field, Manziel led the Aggies to a 52-31 victory. Oh, and Manziel, after returning from his half game suspension was then benched by his coach after he received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Johnny Football is full of highlights and full of bonehead decisions apparently.

According to ESPN, Manziel was suspended for half a game after inadvertently breaking NCAA rules regarding autographs. So this apparently was just one last minute strike against him in an already tumultuous offseason. Then, after watching his team struggle in the first half, Manziel came in and torched Rice's defense throwing three touchdowns for 94 yards. However, Manziel was then penalized by the refs after he wouldn't' stop talking trash to the opponents, who I'm sure were talking their fair share as well. So, Manziel's already shortened day got even shorter with a benching from Coach Kevin Sumlin.

CBS Sports reports that Manziel's penalty wasn't his only example of immaturity. First, Manziel pantomimed a motion as if he were signing an autograph towards the opposing team. Then after throwing a touchdown pass, Manziel looked to the sky and rubbed his fingers together in a counting money motion. Coach Sumlin said he didn't see either of those, but if he did he said, "If I'd seen that, I'd have done something about it."

It seems Manziel's controversial offseason was just the beginning. Buckle up college football fans, this season should be interesting.
