Several fans totally bashed Miley Cyrus for her "inappropriate" performance of Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" at the 2013 VMAs - but that doesn't mean the "We Can't Stop" songstress committed suicide over it! An extremely morbid death hoax surrounding Liam Hemsworth's fiancee recently went viral on Facebook and Twitter. Apparently, the 20-year-old twerk queen killed herself after experiencing "traumatic stress" from such VMAs backlash. But these rumors are NOT true - Cyrus is still alive and well, and is proud that her controversial performance managed to make MTV "history."

According to Hoax Slayer, here's the BOGUS "RIP Miley Cyrus" link currently circulating on Facebook:

--BREAKING-NEWS- [R.I.P.] -MILEY CYRUS commits SUICIDE after traumatic stress -[Rest in Peace]-
hollywooddailydose/exclusive (for 18 years and abo...
MILEY recorded a suicide video message for her fans. (watch more..)

If fans run across this disturbing link, do not click on it! It's mostly likely scam that could lead to harmful viruses.

Thankfully, the link has since been removed from Facebook, but as Hoax Slayer explains:

Scammers regular use fake news about celebrities to trick people into clicking malicious links. In 2012, a widespread scam campaign claimed that people who clicked a link could view a salacious video of Miley. However, the link actually enticed users into handing access to their Facebook accounts to criminals and participating in bogus online surveys. And, earlier in 2013, messages falsely claiming that actor Jackie Chan had died in an accident tried to trick users into installing rogue apps or malicious browser extensions.

The morbid "suicide" hoax eventually made it's way to Twitter... and several fans initially fell for the scam. Check out some of the disturbing tweets:

@macoy1521: "MILEY CYRUS committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence after a traumatic stress. She was rushed at HPMC and was dead on arrival."

@cahyakartika: "HOT News: Miley Cyrus commits suicide after traumatic stress (still in critical condition)...She recorded a suicide video message for fans :(."

Cyrus' sweet-and-innocent Hannah Montana persona might be "dead," but the real Miley certainly isn't. Suicide is never something to joke about and fans should always get their information from reliable sources before spreading such harsh lies online. That's exactly what the hoaxters want!
