2010's How Do You Know will serve as film legends Jack Nicholson's final movie after news broke today that he has retired from acting. There was no big announcement or any indications leading up to this point, but due to memory loss the 76-year-old actor has stepped away from an illustrious career in movies and television.

This news comes from Radar Online. Here is an excerpt:

Jack Nicholson has quietly retired from the movie business, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

"Jack has - without fanfare - retired," a well-placed Hollywood film insider confirmed to Radar.

"There is a simple reason behind his decision - it's memory loss. Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him.

"Tellingly, producers for the forthcoming film Nebraska had wanted him to play the key role of an aging, booze-addled father who makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.

"The role ultimately went to Bruce Dern, after Nicholson advised the filmmakers that he was not interested," the source said.

"Jack has no intention of retiring from the limelight," the source added. "He's not retiring from public life, at all. He just doesn't want a tribute. He's happy to tacitly join the retirees club like Sean Connery."

In one of Jack's most recent interviews back in June, the famed actor spoke about his career.

"I take responsibility for my successes as well as my failures," he said. "But when I look at my professional mistakes, I'm always left with the feeling that maybe I should have done more. These are my private musings. I'm such a perfectionist. I always feel over-praised, or whatever. In the abstract, I know I'm a good person, a good professional. But it's nice to be noticed a little bit, ain't it?"
