Glee Season 5 SPOILERS: Cory Monteith Tribute Episode 'The Quarterback' Synopsis Released Online, Characters Return to McKinley High to Celebrate Life of Finn Hudson

The highly anticipated, sure to be sad "Glee" tribute episode to deceased cast member Cory Monteith is fast approaching. Two weeks before its airdate of Oct. 10, FOX has released the official synopsis of "The Quarterback," which will honor both Monteith and his character on the show, jock turned Glee club member Finn Hudson.

"In the wake of Finn's sudden death, former members of New Directions return to McKinley to remember their fallen friend. While a stoic Mr. Schue encourages all the gleeks to 'memorialize him the way we do everything -- by singing about it,' some of the kids find the exercise more cathartic than others. At the Hudson-Hummel home, Kurt, Burt and Carole sort through Finn's belongings and what begins as a somber occasion blossoms into a poignant and much needed family moment.

Meanwhile, Emma grows concerned when she believes Will is so busy taking care of others that he's not allowing himself time to grieve; Santana struggles with using her 'bitch' mask to hide her fond feelings for Finn, and has a run-in with Bree, McKinley's 'New Santana'; and following a heart-to-heart with Coach Beiste, Puck honors Finn's memory by making a life-changing decision about his future."

Monteith died in July at the age of 31, due to an overdose of heroin and alcohol. While "Glee" was originally going to tackle the issue of drug use head on in the tribute episode, show creator Ryan Murphy later changed that decision, and instead chose to celebrate the happier aspects of the actor's life through song.

"Basically, what we're doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died. The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, 'This episode is about a celebration of that character's life,'" Murphy said in an interview with Deadline in August.

Other details about "The Quarterback" have leaked online. Reportedly, the whole cast will join together for a rendition of the "RENT" song "Seasons of Love," and Monteith's real life and on-screen girlfriend Lea Michele will not appear until the very end of the episode.

"The Quarterback" episode of "Glee" will air on Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. on FOX.
