The Oct. 7, 2013 edition of WWE's "Monday Night Raw" emanates live from The Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The show opens with Stephanie McMahon, who is announced as "one of the principal owners of the WWE."
Stephanie calls out Big Show and wants to know what he has to say for himself after his actions at Battleground. He half-heartedly apologizes and Stephanie continues to try to assert her control over the giant. He says he knocked out Orton because he couldn't take it anymore, and he knocked out Bryan because she asked him to do so. She tries to deflect blame to Raw General Manager Brad Maddox, but Show calls Maddox a puppet that works for her and her S.O.B. husband, Triple H. Stephanie repeatedly slaps Big Show in the face and fires him.
Dolph Ziggler faces Damien Sandow in a rematch from the Battleground pre-show and beats Mr. Money in the Bank with the Fameasser.
Stephanie is backstage with Maddox and she berates him for all the mistakes he made during the pay-per-view. She tells him he is lucky that she does not fire him like The Big Show and forces him to go out to the ring and publicly apologize.
Jerry "The King" Lawler introduces WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino, who grew up in Pittsburgh, during the commercial break and the crowd sings "Happy Birthday" to him. He turned 78 on Monday.
Natalya, Eva Marie and JoJo defeat Aksana, Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes in a six-Diva tag team match. This is the first match for Eva Marie and JoJo, and Natalya earns the win for her team when she gets Alicia to tap out to the Sharpshooter. JoJo actually never entered the match.
Brad Maddox appears on the stage and apologizes for his mistakes at Battleground. He announces that Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton will face off inside Hell in a Cell at the pay-per-view of the same name in three weeks. He also announces that the fans will be able to vote for one of three Hall of Famers as the special guest referee in the match. He then introduces the first candidate: Booker T.
Booker T says the fans should vote for him because they know him as the six-time World Heavyweight Champion and that he will do the right thing during the match.
Los Matadores defeat Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal in the next match with their finisher. Heath Slater tries to attack El Torito after the match, but the little bull hits a flying headscissors that throws Slater out of the ring.
Paul Heyman comes out with Ryback and Curtis Axel and calls CM Punk a cheater for his actions at Battleground. Punk comes out quickly and accepts a rematch challenge, whether it's tonight or in three weeks at Hell in a Cell. Ryback gets on the mic, calls Punk a bully and challenges him to come into the ring right now. R-Truth's music hits and after a moment of discussion, the two head to the ring for an impromptu tag team match.
Toward the end of the match, Punk hits a running knee on Axel in the corner and follows that up with a bulldog. He hits the elbow drop from the top rope and then plants the Intercontinental Champion with the GTS after he knocked Ryback off the apron. Ryback enters the ring, but Punk kicks him in the head for his troubles and Ryback rolls out of the ring. Instead of pinning Axel, Punk tags in R-Truth, who hits his scissors kick for the win.
Bob Backlund, the second candidate for the special referee, comes out and rants at the crowd for a minute. There were words in his screaming somewhere but only a few of them escaped.
Randy Orton faces Kofi Kingston next and The Viper takes control and destroys Kofi on the outside. He hits the DDT off the barricade, rolls Kofi into the ring at a count of nine and then plants him with the RKO for the pin.
Daniel Bryan rushes out and attacks Orton with ferocity. He flings Orton over the announce table and assaults him until more than 10 officials separate them. Bryan breaks free and chases Orton up the ramp and to the backstage area.
Alberto Del Rio is backstage with Smackdown General Manager Vickie Guerrero and asks if she will name him the new face of the WWE. He creepily flirts with her for a while. He says he wanted the night off but he is the only champion the WWE has. He says he trusts Vickie to find the right opponent for him tonight. He gives her his black scarf and leaves.
The third and final candidate for special referee comes out: The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels! HBK talks about how he trained Daniel Bryan, how he and Triple H are friends and how he and Orton don't get along. But the match is about business and he says he will call it fair and square. He also gets "HB Shizzle" trending.
Alberto Del Rio comes out for his match. Vickie comes out to announce that Ricardo Rodriguez is his opponent for tonight. The bell rings, but Vickie says she has one more announcement. Del Rio will defend the World Heavyweight Championship at Hell in a Cell against John Cena! Del Rio loses it, and Ricardo rolls him up for the pin.
Ricardo poses on the announce table after the match, but Del Rio takes his legs out. He goes nuts, puts Ricardo's arm in a chair and stomps on it for a while. He locks in the Cross Arm Breaker to inflict even more damage.
Fandango faces Zack Ryder in the next match and beats him with the top rope leg drop.
The King reveals Shawn Michaels as the winner of the special referee poll (and it wasn't even close).
The Real Americans are in the ring after the break and after a "We The People," Santino Marella and The Great Khali come out for a tag team match because, apparently, the classic at Battleground wasn't enough and we needed to see this match again. The ending is exactly the same, too, as Antonio Cesaro puts Khali in the Giant Swing and pins him. The crowd popped for the Swing and it's still impressive no matter how many times he does it. Cesaro puts Hornswoggle in the Swing after the match (after he humorously pretends not to be able to lift him), but Santino breaks it up with The Cobra.
The Miz is in the ring after the break for Miz TV with special guest...himself. He barely gets out a few words when The Wyatt Family's intro interrupts him. Harper and Rowan are in the ring when the lights come on but Miz escapes. He rushes Bray Wyatt and slips past him. Bray hangs upside down off his two family members and laughs.
Brad Maddox is backstage with Stephanie and asks if he has acquitted himself, and Stephanie says he has a long way to go. Triple H shows up and says he has been busy cleaning up Maddox's mess. Maddox says he will go out to ensure that the main event six-man tag team match between The Shield, Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes and Goldust goes smoothly, but Triple H tells him that he will do nothing. He says he will personally go out to ensure that what happens is "best for business."
The Shield make their way through the crowd and into the ring. Their opponents come out after the break. After some solid action, Bryan cinches in the Yes Lock on Seth Rollins. Dean Ambrose then hits Cody Rhodes with a chair, which causes a disqualification. Justin Roberts starts to announce Bryan, Rhodes and Goldust as the winners, but Triple H, who had been sitting at ringside, declares that the night will not end on an indecisive note and restarts the match with a no disqualification stipulation.
Randy Orton then hops over the barricade, assaults Bryan and plants him with the RKO. Rollins pins Bryan for the win. The Shield then assault the three men until the Big Show's music hits. He walks to the ring slowly with a smile as Triple H stands behind the three men.
Big Show enters the ring and fights off The Shield for a moment, but the three men recover and beat him down. Triple H takes off his suit jacket and yells at them to finish him, but Show knocks them all off of him and stands alone with the COO. He knocks out Triple H and leaves. Bryan enters the ring, stands over HHH and starts a Yes! chant as the show goes off the air.
