When Drake dropped his Nothing Was The Same track "Wu-Tang Forever", he caught quite a bit of flack. Purists and Wu cultists didn't take to kindly to the king of sad rap copping from the Shaolin masters. However, it turns out the track has a not insignificant co-sign from none other than RZA himself.

In fact, the film-scoring/directing Abbot let Drake have the sample that the song was built on ("It's Yourz" from Wu-Tang Forever) for free.

"[Drake] sent me [the] song because they couldn't clear the sample. So I did it myself, personally, for free. Free of charge," RZA said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

As per usual, RZA has some intelligent reasoning behind his actions.

"To me, that's what we meant when we said 'Wu-Tang is forever.' We didn't think we were going to live forever. We meant that the energy of what we do would spread on in culture, generation by generation," he said. "By Drake absorbing it and having that influence in his life and having it be a part of him, it proves what I'm saying."

That's all well and good. Can we just admit that Drake co-opting some of the most aggresive and innovative gangster rap of the '90s to release perhaps his Drake-iest song ever is still a little bit strange?
