Square Enix first revealed that Kingdom Hearts 3 was in development at E3 earlier this year, and now the company has released 90 seconds of gameplay footage.

The following clip debuted at the D23 Expo Japan this week and provides the first, best look at KH3 to date. The graphics, naturally, are greatly improved over its predecessors, but the gameplay innovations are something to behold.

The video begins with the typical Kingdom Hearts combat: Sora swings his Keyblade, blasts fire spells and slays Heartless alongside Donald and Goofy in Twilight Town. But now, Sora can fire multiple spells in every direction, and it looks as though his Keyblade can turn into miniature guns in his two hands in order to fire.

The second part of the video shows Sora and friends on a rocking pirate ship. In a new twist for the series, the camera switches to a view behind Sora and to his left as the ship rocks back and forth and the hero fires away at his enemies. The boat then does a complete 360-degree spin in the air.

Finally, we see Sora, Donald and Goofy on a train on tracks made out of light as they battle with the Rock Titan from Hercules. The beast continues to try to punch the train, but Sora knocks the hand away with the Keyblade. He leaps over the monster's hand at one point and lands back in the train car. The video ends as Sora, Donald and Goofy jump out of the vehicle and send the train hurtling toward the Rock Titan.

The video is brief but it seems as though Square is really mixing things up for the much-anticipated third main installment in the Kingdom Hearts series. Great as the previous games were, players could typically get through large chunks of the game by simply mashing the attack button. This time around, variety seems to be the name of the game.
