After a wild Twitter rant and a subsequent ribbing from host Jimmy Kimmel, Kanye West appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. While there, Kanye said that being from Chicago meant he wasn't afraid to get violent.

Now, fellow Chicago rapper Common is weighing in on the subject.

Common -- Kanye's Right ... Chicago's an Ultra-Violent Place

Common doesn't see the violent nature of his hometown as a badge of honor and said as much

"You see what's going on with the young people right now, there's a lot of death and violence going on in Chicago ... but we're gonna make change."

Common has previously called for an end to Chicago's gun violence problem, famously asking drill rapper Chief Keef to join him in a peace summit.

"To decide to take someone's life, I don't think they let a rap song determine that," he said, adding that rap artists simply reflect of the violence of the streets, and don't cause it. At the same time, he said, fans of young rappers, whose music provides a window into a violent lifestyle, are "influenced by that energy and take it the wrong way."
