The good ol' state of Massachusetts has gotten a new theme song, courtesy of "The Fox" comedy group Ylvis. The Norwegian trio have followed up the Billboard top 10 hit with "Massachusetts," and the already-viral video is just as hilarious as you would expect.
The song begins with Bard Ylvisaker, Vegard Ylvisaker and Calle Hellevang-Larsen longing to travel to the "best place on Earth." As they cross the pond from their native Norway to the US, they bypass lame places like New York and Los Angeles for the glorious land of Massachusetts, which they helpfully inform listeners is the 14th largest state.
Things such as the Boston library and local cheeses are celebrated before the song takes a bizarre, hilarious turn, much like "The Fox." Soon, Ylvis are celebrating the racial and cultural diversity of the Bay State, including Catholic priests and Nelson Mandala.
The point of the joke isn't entirely clear, but it is true that Massachusetts is not the "land of 1000 tribes" like Ylvis claim. According to the United States Census 2010, Massacusetts over 83 percent white, six percent higher than the United States as a whole.
Eventually, Ylvis also poke fun at the state's absurdly long name, recalling the varying noises a fox makes in their biggest viral hit.
Regardless, watch "Massachusetts" and have a laugh below:
