Following the sudden death legendary rock music icon Lou Reed on Sunday (Oct. 27), the music world has been full of touching tributes to the Velvet Underground singer. The most recent rock bands to pay their respects to Reed are alternative rock giants Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire, both of whom played classic Reed tracks during concerts last night (Oct. 28).

Arctic Monkeys went acoustic for a spot-on version of Reed's classic 1972 song "Walk on the Wild Side" at an arena show in Liverpool. The most surprising thing about this touching tribute was lead singer Alex Turner's vocal work on the track. Normally singing with a powerful, loud yelp, Turner toned down his vocals in both register and emotion to match Reed's more relaxed singing voice.

The crowd, who cheered upon hearing the distinctive opening riff and sang along with the chorus ramped up their "doo doo doo's" when told to by Turner, in a somber and oddly beautiful tribute.

Meanwhile, Arcade Fire (whose new album Reflektor dropped today) performed two Reed classics at an intimate NPR show last night.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Arcade Fire performed two songs from Reed's album Transformer -- the same record that includes "Wild Side" -- "Perfect Day" and "Satellite of Love." According to the entertainment news website, the tribute left some audience members in tears.

With the death of such a rock icon, fans can expect more beautiful musical tributes to come in the next few days. My Morning Jacket and Pearl Jam have also given a nod to Reed recently.
