According to a new report from horror movie news website Bloody Disgusting, Lionsgate is in the early stages of developing the eighth installment of its Saw franchise. The movie news blog says that the film production house is "actively developing" Saw 8, showing no signs of abandoning the franchise any time soon. Bloody Disgusting also points out that there is no rush on the upcoming Saw project continuation, and no release date or schedule has been announced just yet.

The last film of the franchise, Saw 3D, was released back in 2010, ending the October rule of the franchise for over three years now. Since then, we've been treated to Paranormal Activities reign of terror but left without the usual torture porn genre that Saw made mainstream.

Though this report is very limited in details, the return to the Saw franchise makes sense for Lionsgate films. There's a reason why seven of these films were made: they were all so successful that the production company couldn't say no to more and more of these films. Even if the movie looks bad, people will see it. That is how Saw has survived for so long and will most likely survive this gap between movies.

It should be pointed out that Saw 3D was advertised with the slogan, "The Final Chapter." So doesn't that mean the series should stop? Well this new rumor makes it seem like Lionsgate regretted that tagline and wants to get back into the series. The fact that they are taking their time with the production means that we should expect a franchise return done right!
