'Thor: The Dark World' star Idris Elba confirms Marvel talked to him about a Luke Cage movie

Earlier this month, Marvel and Netflix announced their collaboration to bring new, exclusive television shows based on comic book characters for the online streaming company. One of those characters is Luke Cage, who had already been rumored for a movie. Now actor Idris Elba has just come out saying that Marvel had contacted him for the film role! What does this mean for the Netflix series?

Back in 2011, Elba revealed that he was interested in a comic book character role.

"I'd like a stab at Luke Cage," he said at the time. This probably got Marvel's attention because now the actor is saying that over the years he has been in contact with the company about the role.

"There was talk about Luke Cage at one time - I thought Luke Cage was a pretty interesting character," he said. "They were going to do it, but I don't know what happened."

Elba also said that he knew about the Netflix plans for Luke Cage, which brings up the question: Would Idris Elba star in this series even though he was first contacted for a film?

He would definitely be an amazing choice for the Luke Cage series. Elba has plenty of television experience with critically acclaimed performances on The Wire, The Office (U.S.), The Big C, and Luther.

Plus Marvel has pretty much hinted that these new Netflix shows could turn into movies, so that could be a good selling point for Idris Elba.
