Nick Cannon has found himself in the center of attention in what appears to be a jewelry heist. A person pretending to be the TV and radio host's personal assistant walked off with a briefcase full of bling from upscale retailer Fred Segal.

In what sounds like a bad movie or a bad dream, Us Weekly told us the full story. Someone called Fred Segal's Santa Monica store pretending to be part of the America's Got Talent host's inner circle. The man asked for an assortment of jewelry to be brought to a designated meeting spot -- the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood -- where Mariah Carey's husband would be waiting. However, when the store staffer arrived with the glittery gems, a man took the entire briefcase -- and took off.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the incident, which occurred last month, to omg! on Monday. The rep said Cannon, 33, was not on the premises when the crime occurred -- nor was he aware of it.

The store employee filed a grand theft report with police, meaning the price of the jewelry was in excess of $950. The Hollywood burglary division is currently investigating the case.

"Regarding this incident, which happened several weeks ago, details that have been reported in the press are not entirely accurate," a rep for Fred Segal tells omg! without elaborating on which part of the LAPD spokesperson's information was incorrect. "However, as this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot give further information at this time."

As for Cannon, through his spokesperson, he says he has "no comment" about the theft.
