Fans who have been following the casting news for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already know that Chris Cooper will play Norman Osborn in the film, but much about the character has remained shrouded in mystery. But now, Cooper has revealed some of the circumstances of Norman's introduction in the film.

The Amazing Spider-Man made some references to Norman Osborn, including some allusions to a sickness he apparently has, but he never appeared. But Cooper told MTV how he would first surface in the sequel:

"'[Amazing] Spider-Man 2′ was an introduction to Norman, and, you'll see, an extremely odd introduction, which apparently will lead to something more."

Cooper has said in the past that Norman Osborn's role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will set up "better things" in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and possibly beyond that point, and his words to MTV mesh with that. But what is that something more?

As with most speculation about The Amazing Spider-Man movie series, it comes down to the Sinister Six, the group of supervillains who team up to try to take down Spider-Man multiple times in the comics. Here's more from Cooper in the MTV interview:

"When asked if he was familiar with the concept of the Sinister Six and its potential as the future direction of the series, Cooper said he was 'vaguely' aware. 'They sent me some material,' he said. 'But they said also that this Spider-Man is its own Spider-Man. We're just kind of starting from the beginning.'"

A Sinister Six team-up seems more likely with each bit of information that emerges about this franchise, but it's unknown if Norman Osborn or Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) will be the Green Goblin in this film series.
