Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast of "Rock of Ages" failed to overwhelm at the box office this weekend. Despite its high-energy rock theme, the movie falls short in exciting their audience.

The 80's movie adaptation of the Broadway rock musical flops in bringing audiences to the theaters. The Adam Shankman movie tumbles with only $15.1 million in weekend earnings.

Adding an insult to the Broadway adaptation, animated movie "Madagascar" featuring voices of Ben Stiller and Chris Rock earned $35.5 million in the box office weekend. It was more than the total earning of "Rock of Ages" and Adam Sandler's "That's My Boy" combined.

Charlize Theron's "Prometheus" landed on second place having $20.2 million on its ticket sales on its second weekend. "Rock of Ages" is on third spot, Adam Sandler's "That's My Boy" followed, while Kristen Stewart's "Snow White and the Huntsman" lands on fifth spot.
