NBC's The Voice narrowed its Season 5 playing field even further this week to just six contestants. Caroline Pennell and Ray Boudreaux got the axe, while Matthew Schuler was the beneficiary of the Twitter instant save. That means the Top 6 consists of Cole Vosbury, Jacquie Lee, James Wolpert, Matthew Schuler, Tessanne Chin and Will Champlin.

In an interview with E! Online after Tuesday's show, host Carson Daly offered his thoughts about the eliminations and the Top 6.

"It's hard. I mean at this point, you know, it's not a cliché," Daly said. "We've been doing the show for a long time, especially me, because I start early...so I get in with the families early on and you know, I'm pulling for them. But we had a great group. I was surprised Matthew Schuler was even in the bottom three, but he was saved."

Blake Shelton, meanwhile, lamented the fact that one of his acts, Ray Boudreaux, had to go home.

"It sucks, because I can't help but feel responsible for it any time I see one of my team members go home, and it doesn't get easier or change from season after season," Shelton said. "You know, I think that one of the best things this show has ever done is group us all together as competing against each other instead of waiting until the finale to compete against each other. It's better for the show, but it's tough as a coach, as a guy who has relationships with these people, and you know, I feel fortunate to have made it this far with a couple of people, but it doesn't make it any easier to see Ray go home."

A member of Shelton's team has won The Voice in each of the last three seasons, but he is down to just one singer now (Cole Vosbury). Adam Levine, meanwhile, has three acts (Will Champlin, Tessanne Chin and James Wolpert), Christina Aguilera has one (Jacquie Lee) and Cee Lo Green has none.
