Back in 2009, rapper Asher Roth released a viral track entitled "As I Em" off of his debut studio album Asleep in the Bread Aisle. In the song, Roth addressed several Eminem comparisons within the hip-hop industry - check it out:

Here are the lyrics:

Take me as I am my friends
Ain't gon' change, won't be no end
Write these songs, rock these shows
Only good life I know

I was in seventh grade when I heard the Slim Shady LP
Yeah, my mom brought it down when I was ironin', irony
Gettin' out the wrinkles, just a little kid in middle school
Sink my teeth in anythin' to think I'm cool, ridin' the bus

I feel the rush from, I still don't give a fuck
Yeah, I wish I could agree but I've already had enough
I've already given up from playin' the same game
Every interview, feel like I'm sayin' the same thing, like

Em was great, yeah he paved the way for me
He was inspiration for everybody from A to Z
But they keep relatin' me, I can' get away, chasin' me
All day long, I hear it, all day long

And now the masters think that Asher wants to be a Marshall Mather's
They say Asher's not a rapper, na his ass is just an actor
'Cause we have the same complexion and similar voice inflection
It's easy to see the pieces and the reach for that connection

Each second of every minute, each hour of everyday
I'm constantly on defense defendin' my own name
Explainin' we're not the same
Not much that I can say, except I'm sick of it
Critics out only sparked up a flame, it's on

Take me as I am my friends
Ain't gon' change, won't be no end
Write these songs, rock these shows
Only good life I know
Take me as I am my friends
Ain't gon' change, won't be no end
Write these songs, rock these shows
Only good life I know

Now don't get it twisted, I've definitely benefited
It's like suddenly everyone wants to hear what I've been spittin'
It's so different, the image they don't get it
It's simple, I'm just a kid who wants to rap to make a livin'

But Em was in it way before I committed
And his lyrics were the shit, so I really gotta come with it
But each critics be pickin' apart my writings
If it isn't up to par then Asher's Paul is just a gimmick

Is it my fault, must I be more convincin'?
Y'all talk all you want, never halt me from my mission
Use it as ammunition, would you please keep dissin' me?
All day long, I hear it, all day long

And yeah, the haters wanna hate because I made it and I'm famous
But until you take my place, you'll never know 'bout
What it takes to make a record for respect, take a second to inspect
When you look like someone else, then what the fuck do you expect?

I just want to be accepted as the illest in the game
But it's harder for an artist creatin' his own lane
That's anonymous with rhymin' and combine with perfect timin'
On the time that's now declinin' and about to explode, so hold on

Take me as I am my friends
Ain't gon' change, won't be no end
Write these songs, rock these shows
Only good life I know
Take me as I am my friends
Ain't gon' change, won't be no end
Write these songs, rock these shows
Only good life I know

So fuck it that's all I got, there's nothin' else for me to say
If I don't confront the problem, it will never go away
Unless it is addressed there's nothin' left for me to do
It's impossible rejectin' an elephant in the room

Say goodbye to all the bullshit, notions preconceived
So long to all the blogs who coulda swore they knew me
If you have no further questions and can't think of other thoughts
Then I'd like to introduce you to Asher Paul Roth

Take me as I am my friends
Ain't gon' change, won't be no end
Write these songs, rock these shows
Only good life I know
Take me as I am my friends
Ain't gon' change, won't be no end
Write these songs, rock these shows
Only good life I know

And on his highly-anticipated new album MMLP2, Slim Shady came back with a vengence. Check out Eminem's diss track "A$$hole" -

Again, here are the lyrics:

Came to the world at a time when it was in need of a villain
An asshole, that role; think I succeed in fulfilling
But don't think I ever stopped to think that I was speaking to children
Everything was happening so fast
It was like I blinked – sold three million
Then it all went blank, all I remember is feeling
Ridiculous cause I was getting sick of this feeling
Like I am always under attack
Man, I could have stacked my shit list to the ceiling
Women dish him but really thinking
If anyone ever talks to one of my little girls like this I would kill him
Guess I'm a little bit of a hypocrite when I'm rippin' shit
But since when did this many people ever give a shit
What I had to say, it's just my opinion
If it contradicts how I'm living, put a dick in your rear end
That's why every time you mention a lyric, I thank you for it
For drawin' more attention toward it
Cause it gave me an enormous platform
I'm flattered you thought I was that important
But you can't ignore the fact that I fought for the respect
And battle for it, mad awards, had GLAAD annoyed
Attaboy, they told me to slow down, and I just zone out
Good luck trying to convince a blonde
That's like telling Gwen Stefan' that she sold out
Cause I was tryna leave, No Doubt
In anyone's mind one day I'd go down
In history think they know now because everybody

[Hook: Skylar Grey]
Everybody knows that you're just an asshole
Everywhere that you go, people wanna go, "oh everyone knows"
Everybody knows, so don't pretend to be nice
There's no place you can hide
You are just an asshole
Everyone knows, everyone knows

[Bridge]
Thanks for the support, asshole *scratch*
Thanks for the support, asshole

Quit actin' salty, I was countin' on you to count me out
Ask Asher Roth when he round-a-bout dissed me to shout me out
Thought I was history
But goddamn honkey, that compliment's like backhanding a donkey
Good way to get your ass socked in the mouth
Lay 'em off it, but what the fuck is all this thrash talking about
The fight was fixed, I'm back and you can't stop me
You knock me down, I went down for the count
I fell but the fans caught me, and now
You're gonna have to beat the fuckin' pants off me
To take my belt, word to Pacquiao
Momma said there ain't nothin' else to talk about
Better go in that ring and knock em out
Or you better not come out!
It's poetry in motion, like Freddie Roach
When he's quoting Shakespeare
So what if the insults are revolting
Even Helen Keller knows life stinks
You think it's a joke 'til you're bullet riddled
But you should give little shit what I think
This whole world is a mess
Gotta have a goddamn vest on your chest
And a Glock just to go out watch Batman
Who needs a test of testicles, not that man
Half of you don't got the guts and intestinal blockage
Rest of you got lap bands stuck to this model
Before they put bath salts and all those water bottles in Colorado
So get lost, Waldo
My soul's escaping through this asshole that is gaping
A black hole that I'm swallowing this track whole
Better pack toilet paper, but I'm not taking no crap, ho
Here I go down the Bat pole
And I'm changing back into that old maniac in fact there it go
Trying to dip through the back door retreating cause everybody knows

[Hook]

Holy mackerel, I'm the biggest jerk on the planet Earth
I'll smack a girl off the mechanical bull at a tractor pull
Thinkin' we have some magnetic pull
Then scream "ICP IN THIS BITCH, HOW DO FUCKIN MAGNETS WORK?"
Cause you're attractive, but we ain't attractable
Hate to be dramatical, but I'm not romantical
I'm makin' up words you can understandable, It's tragical
Thinking some magical shit's gonna happen?
That ain't practical
You cracking a joke, it's laughable
Cause me and love's like a bad combination
I keep them feelings locked in a vault
So it's safe to say I'm uncrackable
My heart is truly guarded, full body armor
Bitch, you just need a helmet
Cause if you think you're special, you're retarded
Thinkin' you're one of a kind, like you got some platinum vagina
You're a train wreck, I got a one-track mind
Shorty you're fine but you sort of remind me of a 49er
Cause you been a gold digger since you was a minor
Been tryna, hunt me down like a dog, cause you're on my ass
But you can't get a scent cause all of my spare time is spent
With my nose in this binder, so don't bother tryin'
Only women that I love are my daughters
But sometimes I rhyme and it sounds
Like I forget I'm a father, and I push it farther
So father forgive me if I forget to draw the line
It's apparent I shouldn't have been a parent
I'll never grow up, so to hell with your parents
And motherfucking father time
It ain't never gonna stop
A pessimist who transformed to an optimist in his prime
So even if I'm half dead, I'm half alive
Throw all my half empty glass in a cup, so now my cup has runneth over
And I'm bout to set it on you like a motherfucking coaster
I’m going back to what got me here
Yeah cocky, and can’t knock being rude off
So fear not my dear, and dry up your teardrops I'm here
White America's mirror, so don't feel awkward and weird if
You stare at me and see yourself, because you're one too
You shouldn't be as shocked, because EVERYBODY KNOWS

So, what does Roth think about this? Actually, he's pretty cool with it.

During a recent Hot 97 interview with Juan Epstein, the "I Love College" rapper reveals:

"It's cool, man... I thought it was pretty amazing...There's nothing really there. It's like I've never really met him. I don't know him personally. You know what I mean?"

Roth then discussed his reasoning behind "I Am Em" -

"Man, it was just like when things were coming out everybody was like [all] 'Em, Asher, Em, Asher, Em, Asher.' And so, for me I just wanted to like talk about how I was my own person... You know what I mean? And that's really all it was. And talking about when I first been introduced to Em's music when I was young in seventh grade. And just kinda like talking about that relationship with being inspired by an emcee and listening to that music and having it be influential...I think Em's just being Em."
