Season 4 of The Walking Dead will return on Feb. 9, which should give fans just enough time to recover from the bloody and action-packed midseason finale that aired Sunday night. Some new spoilers about the second half of the season have been revealed and should get fans even more excited (if that's possible).

News broke in October that Southland alum Michael Cudlitz had signed onto The Walking Dead to play Abraham, a character from the comics. E! Online reports exclusively that the role of Abraham is a "massively important one" that will tie in directly with the show's main characters. The site's sources said that AMC battled to get Cudlitz for the part and struggled to do so thanks to budget and timing issues. E!

E! Online reports that several actors were up for the part, "including a well-known actor from Once Upon a Time who very much wanted the part." But the sources said Cudlitz was "perfect" and "will not disappoint."

In the comics, Abraham travels with his girlfriend Rosalita (played on the show by Christian Serrators) and Eugene (Josh McDermitt). Eugene says he is a scientist who has crucial information about the origin of the zombie outbreak. E! Online reports through its sources that the television version of Abraham will "closely resemble but not mirror the books."

Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on the show, said on The Talking Dead post-show Sunday night that the rest of the Season 4 episodes were "the boldest, bravest and most exciting this show has ever attempted." Executive producer and comic book creator Robert Kirkman also called them "very intense."

The survivors are also out of the prison and on their own after The Governor's attack in the midseason finale. In the comics, they head to the late Hershel's farm afterwards to regroup, but the show's producers have yet to say where the characters will head next.
