Emma Stone reportedly passes on 'Ghostbusters 3' but is Jonah Hill interested?

Ghostbusters 3 has been rumored pretty much since Ghostbusters 2 came out in 1989. Stories about the project's gaining momentum have popped up repeatedly in the past several years, and one of the latest reports indicated that Bill Murray would not be involved with the sequel. Now, it seems that another star has passed on the project.

The latest casting reports tied Emma Stone and Jonah Hill (who worked on Superbad together in 2007) to Ghostbusters 3 as characters named Anna and Jeremy, respectively. But according to Schmoes Know, Stone has declined to participate in the movie, while Hill is still undecided:

"Emma Stone is passing on 'Anna,' but Jonah Hill still has an offer out for 'Jeremy.'  Interesting enough, Sony wants two big stars signed on or they will not greenlight the picture."

That last sentence is particularly interesting especially if Bill Murray does not want to be in the film. The Ghostbusters title would probably draw some nostalgic fans, but Sony apparently wants to make sure that the film has enough star power to appeal to a broader audience.

It's worth noting that almost nothing about Ghostbusters 3, including Stone's and Hill's involvement, has been officially confirmed. There are also very few details about the Anna and Jeremy characters, but it's likely they are part of a new generation of Ghostbusters based on Dan Aykroyd's description to Larry King:

"We're going to have to cast. We need four new Ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students...It's based upon new research that's being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University. Basically there's research being done that...I can say that the world or our dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width, and time, become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And ghostbusters, new ghostbusters have to come and solve the problem."
