This year Pantone Inc. has named the color of the year 2014 to be radiant orchid, according to the Associated Press. It's a big change from 2013's emerald green. From here the color is meant to find its way into the fashion and beauty world, along with products, home and design.

It's meant to signify the color of creativity and originality. In today's society we're striving to be more inventive, according to color specialist and executive director at Pantone, Leatrice Eiseman.

Senior fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue, Colleen Sherin, is already investing in the color for the major retail store. She had this to say about the color: "In ready-to-wear, it mixes with other tones like chocolate browns, and burgundy or Bordeaux makes for a deeper, richer tonal story."

In fact, Saks has already shot an ad featuring an orchid-colored Gucci handbag. She goes on to speak of its potential to make rich makeup hues, for lips and eyes. And that's not where the color stops. "We're seeing more of these infused desserts and cocktails, and I can see them embellished with orchid flowers," Sherin says.

There's even an orchid coffee maker in the works! But this color has been around before the trend. First Lady Michelle Obama may have contributed to its popularity, often choosing purples as he go-to clothing color. It's been popping up on runways here and there and we can expect to now see a lot more of it.

How does Pantone even choose to make this the "it" color of the year? The below video from Bloomberg explains how it can be the "color of business." Pantone's Leatrice Eiseman takes you through the color vetting process and how a color can actually make you more successful. Are you sold?
