The X Factor aired its Top 6 results show on Thursday night and narrowed down its Season 3 competition to just four contestants. The first elimination of the night was a shocker to many fans in the attendance (and surely many at home), and the second one ended a truly heartwarming story.

The first elimination of the night was Ellona Santiago, who earned the fewest amount of votes this week. Gasps echoed throughout the arena, and she and mentor Demi Lovato looked stunned on stage. "I guess I didn't give the strongest performance last night," she uttered.

Emblem3, who formed on last season's X Factor, gave a performance during the night, as did The X Factor UK group Little Mix. As for the rest of the results, the following three acts were sent through to next week (in chronological order):

-       Restless Road

-       Alex & Sierra

-       Jeff Gutt

That left Rion Paige and Carlito Olivero to sing for survival. Rion went first with Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me" and delivered, as usual, an emotional performance with plenty of vocal power. Carlito Olivero went with Usher's "You Make Me Wanna," which was certainly a tonal shift from Rion's song. This was an interesting choice for a survival song because it wasn't the best way to show off his vocals, but he certainly delivered an entertaining performance and worked both the stage and the crowd.

Then it was time to vote, and the judges did so in the following way:

Demi Lovato: Sends home Carlito

Paulina Rubio: Sends home Rion

Kelly Rowland: Sends home Rion

Simon Cowell: Sends home Rion

So Rion was eliminated and Demi lost both of her acts in one night.

What do you think? Did the right two acts go home? Let us know in the comments.
