After a simultaneous broadcast of the Bonnie & Clyde miniseries on Lifetime, A&E and History, it's now trending big time. Last night, the show drew 9.8 million total viewers and 4.2 million adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Research. This is the best miniseries opening in over six years, outside of The Bible and Hatfields & McCoys on the History Channel.

Young Holliday Grainger (Jane Eyre) plays the infamous Bonnie Parker, and Emile Hirsch, Clyde Barrow. The miniseries stars Holly Hunter, who's won an Emmy, Golden Globe and Academy Award. William Hurt is also an Oscar-winner and multiple-time nominee for the biggest award shows. The cast rounds out with Sarah Hyland (ABC's Modern Family), Lane Garrison (Prison Break), Elizabeth Reaser (The Twilight Saga, Grey's Anatomy), Austin Hebert (upcoming thriller The Answer) and Dale Dickey (Iron Man 3). At one point, there was even a rumor that Miley Cyrus would be joining the cast.

It follows Bonnie & Clyde along with the whole Barrow gang in their small robberies and bank heists all across the southern and central United States.

The final part will air tonight at 9pm ET, right after part one airs. According to the Nielsen SocialGuide, part one was the most tweeted program of the day outside of sports. Reception on twitter has been largely positive, which is an impressive win for social media with so many opinionated people.
