According to Jenna Coleman, recently cast Doctor Peter Capaldi will take the long-running sci-fi serial Doctor Who in a new direction after current Doctor Matt Smith makes his exit with the Time Of The Doctor Christmas special.

Coleman, who plays the Doctor's companion Clara Oswald, spoke with Digital Spy about how the show will change under the The Thick Of It actor.

"It will be a different show next year. We have a bit of a gap before we start filming the new series, so I have time to get my head around it all. Me and Peter will get together before Christmas to start rehearsing and the scripts will start coming in."

"He's going to be so different to Matt," Coleman added.

Smith will make his exit on Christmas day, ending a four-year run as the 50-year-old show's lead.
