James Marsden was busy filming Anchorman: The Legend Continues (aka Anchorman 2) and so he was unable to be a part of X-Men: Days of Future Past. But the recently announced 2016 sequel X-Men: Apocalypse led some fans to wonder if the actor would put on the mutant's sunglasses again and play Cyclops in a few years.
Absolute Radio interviewed Marsden and asked if he would be in X-Men: Apocalypse when the time comes, and the actor smiled and shook his head slightly.
"Boy, I don't even know about that," he said.
The interviewer informed him that the movie would be out in 2016 and Marsters commented that it's "way too early." Absolute Radio then suggested he just give Bryan Singer a call and the director would put him in the movie.
"I hope so. Yeah, I hope so," Marsden said. "I love being a part of that world."
It's difficult to get a read on Marsden's potential involvement just from his comments, but it seems like the actor would be up for it based on his experiences in previous X-Men movies. Some optimistic fans believe that Cyclops will appear, possibly in just a cameo role, in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014.
Cyclops was one of the many casualties in X-Men: The Last Stand, the 2006 movie that served as the third in the franchise. Jean Grey/The Phoenix killed him when he went to search for her and the character has not been seen since, except for an appearance as his younger self in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though Tim Pocock played the character in that movie.
