Matthew Perry seems to already be onto a new project with a new take on the old The Odd Couple, according to Deadline.com. If all goes to plan, he would star as the disheveled Oscar Madison opposite his more uptight counterpart, Felix Ungar, on CBS. Perry is set to executive produce and co-write with Danny Jacobson, who's known for Mad About You.

In contrast to the single-camera Go On that was cancelled on NBC, The Odd Couple show will be a multi-camera sitcom. The Odd Couple has a rich history, starting on Broadway in the mid-1960s. Walter Matthau (who played Oscar) then starred in the successful film across Jack Lemmon (Felix). The ABC/Paramount television show with different actors then ran for five seasons. There were also scores of lesser-known takes on the storyline.

Perry had a lot of exciting things to say about the new show, particular his writing partner Jacobson. "I met up with a wonderful writing partner in Danny Jacobson. We both have such a passion for the source material that we have instantly become obsessed with making this great, Perry said. "Plus, I think it's time for me to be in front of a live audience again. I miss that. The search for Felix Ungar is on!" Deadline.com reports. Perry makes reference to Friends being filmed in the Burbank, California studios in front of real viewers.

Otherwise, Perry has been silent on twitter. It's not odd, as he doesn't have an active twitter life. He has made it clear, however, that they're on the hunt for the perfect character to play across from Oscar. A super-tidy Felix makes us think Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), but it seems unlikely the show would rehash too much of an old Friends feel.

Who do you think could fit the role of Felix? Stay tuned for contenders in the running.
