J. Cole proposes to college sweetheart

Being a player is a thing of the past and rumor has it J. Cole has joined the growing list of rappers tying the knot.

The Roc Nation rapper has talked about his college sweetheart Melissa Heholt in previous interviews, without dropping too many personal details of course but recent reports indicate that Cole may be walking down the aisle soon.

Several outlets have been reporting the news and the North Carolina rapper's alma mater even tweeted about the news. Cole and Heholt began dating during his sophomore year at St. John's University in Queens.

The university's official Twitter account sent out this message:

"Congrats to @JColeNC on his engagement to his @StJohnsU college sweetheart #SJU #ColeWorld."

Although MTV News has reached out to his camp for comment, the rapper has not yet confirmed whether or not he and Heholt are in fact engaged.

If the news is true, J. Cole will be the latest of many young rappers who have popped the question. Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose announced their engagement last March. The two have since tied the knot. G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean recently proposed to actress Naya Rivera. Ciara and Future are reportedly engaged also.

Jay Z and Beyonce just may have sparked a new trend in the hip-hop world.

Cole released his sophomore album Born Sinner back in June. On the album he raps about the struggles of staying faithful in a long-term relationship while juggling a career in the music industry.

Congrats to J. Cole and Melissa Heholt if they are jumping the broom.
