The midseason finale of Season 4 of The Walking Dead ended with the survivors scattered after The Governor's tank attack on the prison destroyed their home. Rick and Carl, in particular, are off on their own and fans have wondered what's next for the father-son duo.

Luckily, showrunner Scott Gimple spilled the beans to the "Mega Buzz" column at TV Guide and let us know what we can expect when the show returns in February:

"What's coming up on The Walking Dead- Jason
If you've read the comics, you can probably guess - especially if you paid attention to the trailer. Rick and Carl will be on their own for a while, with Carl really needing to take a leadership role as his father grieves the potential loss of Judith and the prison. 'It's going to hit [Rick] in a way that we haven't seen before,' executive producer Scott Gimple says. 'If it's just the two of them, [Carl is] going to have to step up quite a bit because circumstances are wildly different and a lot will depend on him in terms of them just surviving. They don't have an awesome, dual-layer fence and brick buildings to hide behind. They're out in the world.'

In the midseason finale, we saw baby Judith's car seat covered with blood, though it was unclear if she was dead or simply injured and missing. In the comics, Judith dies during the prison attack, but the show seemingly decided to delay that possible reveal until the second half of the season.
