Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling this week announced that she is currently developing a stage play as co-producer that will premiere in the United Kingdom, telling the story of her most famous character's early life. Though she is not writing the script for the play, Rowling is heavily involved in the story of how Harry's life was before he met Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore and all of the others in the iconic book series.

The synopsis for this brand new play reads:

"What was it like to be the boy in the cupboard under the stairs? This brand new play, which will be developed for the U.K. theatre, will explore the previously untold story of Harry's early years as an orphan and outcast. Featuring some of our favorite characters from the Harry Potter books, this new work will offer a unique insight into the heart and mind of the now legendary young wizard. A seemingly ordinary boy, but one for whom Destiny has plans..."

This synopsis doesn't explain whether or not there will be more to the story than Harry and his adoptive family, the Dursleys, but we can be sure to have more updates as the play develops.

"Over the years I have received countless approaches about turning Harry Potter into a theatrical production, but [Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender]'s vision was the only one that really made sense to me, and which had the sensitivity, intensity and intimacy I thought appropriate for bringing Harry's story to the stage," Rowling said. "After a year in gestation it is exciting to see this project moving on to the next phase. I'd like to thank [Harry Potter movie studio] Warner Bros. for their continuing support in this project."
