The untimely death of 31-year-old Cory Monteith earlier this year brought tears to the eyes of many Glee fans, but it also threw the show into chaos somewhat as series creator Ryan Murphy had to scrap his original ending for the show, which revolved heavily around Finn (Monteith's character) and Rachel (played by Monteith's real-life girlfriend, Lea Michele). But now, Murphy has revealed his original planned ending for the series.

Murphy wrote in an In Memoriam piece for Entertainment Weekly's end-of-2013 special issue that he had mapped out for Rachel and Finn on the show.

"Rachel was going to have become a big Broadway star, the role she was born to play," Murphy writes in the article. "Finn was going to have become a teacher, settled down happily in Ohio, at peace with his choice and no longer feeling like a Lima loser."

Murphy goes on to specify exactly how the final shot would have looked:

"Rachel comes back to Ohio, fulfilled and yet not, and walks into Finn's glee club. 'What are you doing here?' he would ask. 'I'm home,' she would reply. Fade out. The End."

Murphy said at a Paley Center event for American Horror Story: Coven in October that the sixth season of Glee would be the last and that the series finale would pay tribute to Monteith. The show also aired a special tribute episode entitled "The Quarterback" earlier in Season 5.

"The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn's story," Murphy said. "I knew what the last shot was, he was in it. I knew what the last line was. She said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we're figuring that out now."
