The golden-throated Sharon Jones and her backing band, the Dap-Kings, have taken on the greatest James Bond theme of all time: Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger."

Jones and her cohorts covered the track for the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese's excellent new film The Wolf Of Wall Street. While Jones' take is great, and there are few singers alive who could even attempt to lay a hand on the original, it doesn't quite beat out Bassey's take, which served as the opening song for MI6's top spy's best outing.

I think where Jones' version falls short is the instrumentation. The original oozed a sort of sleazy, smoky opulence that is missing on the cover. That being said, Jones manages to make the song competitive, which few is no easy feat.

Give The People What They Want, the latest from the Daptone band, is out on January 14.
