Skream remixes The Smiths

Turns out it is possible to make the miserable wailing of Morrissey even sadder. Dubstep pioneer Skream proved as much when he released his remix of The Smiths 1983 track "This Charming Man."

The track replaces the original's jangle-pop guitars and bouncing bass with despondent piano chords and an eerie heartbeat percussion. With dubstep's evolution into the much-derided brostep, it's a nice reminder that the core group of the genre's early adapters had serious talent.

I never thought I could use The Smiths to cheer someone up but here's the original if you need a breather.

Skream hasn't released an album since 2010 and it looks like he isn't planning one any time soon, describing the release as "just a piece of music I'm really happy with."
