The midseason finale of Season 4 of AMC's smash hit The Walking Dead saw The Governor (David Morrissey) attack the group of survivors at the prison with a tank. The assault left the survivors scattered and multiple characters dead, including The Governor himself. But despite all that, Morrissey indicated in a recent interview that his character's time on the show might not be up just yet.

Morrissey spoke to The Press Association (via Zap 2 It) and hinted that the Governor could return in one way or another.

"Something happened to him. I feel like a shady a politician where I can't confirm and I can't deny anything," Morrissey said. "Certainly, bad things befell him at the end of the last episode, but we just have to wait and see."

The options for a Governor return are extremely limited given the way the character met his demise at the end of the most recent episode. Michonne stabbed him and Lilly shot him in the head, which would make his return as a zombie impossible according to the rules of the show. Furthermore, producer Gale Anne Hurd has confirmed that the Governor is definitely dead. It's possible he could come back in a dream or vision of some sort, but only time will tell.

The British actor also said in the interview that he appreciates all the fans of The Walking Dead, even the ones who hate his character with a passion:

The Walking Dead really has introduced me to a massive fanbase all over the world. It's one of the biggest shows on TV. My fanbase in America has really grown, and I love that. They're very vocal fans and amazing and I find it so heart-warming to be amongst them, even though they boo me because I'm the villain! But that means I'm doing a good job. It's a show that really does punch large and I'm very proud to be associated with [it]. I love being on The Walking Dead, I love playing The Governor and it's given me such a great connection with the public."
